The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) every year to provide Under-Graduate (UG) and Post-Graduate (PG) Law Programmes offered by 24 NLUs. As per Notification, published by the CNLU on the official website, CLAT 2025 will be held on 1st December 2024 (2P.M-4P.M)

The CLAT exam is conducted to grant admissions to the following Under-Graduate (UG) & Post-Graduate (PG) courses:

• BA LLB (Bachelor of Arts LLB)

• BSc LLB (Bachelor of Science LLB)

• BCom LLB (Bachelor of Commerce LLB)

• BBA LLB (Bachelor of Business Administration LLB)

• BSW LLB (Bachelor of Social Work LLB)

• LLM (Master of Law)

To apply for the CLAT-UG exam, you must have completed your class 12 or equivalent exam from a recognized board.

To apply for the CLAT-PG exam, you must have completed your graduation degree in law LL.B from a recognized institution.

CLAT-UG : Eligibility

The CLAT-UG is the entrance examination for Undergraduate Courses i..e, Bachelor of Legislative Law. You must satisfy the following eligibility criteria to apply for the 5 year Integrated LLB programme:

1. There will be no upper age limit for UG, however, you must have passed 10+2 to apply for the exam.

2. As per the CLAT Notification, you must have secured 45% marks in 10+2 or its equivalent grade if you belong to General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI categories; while it is 40% for those belonging to SC/ST categories.

3. If you are appearing for the 12th examination in March/April, you are also eligible to appear in the examination. However, you shall be required to produce evidence of your passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission.

How to Apply for CLAT-UG ?

The entire application process will be conducted online mode. There are four stages involved while filling the CLAT Application Form i.e., Online Registration, Filling the form, Uploading Documents, Payment of application fee. Follow the below steps to complete the process smoothly.

Step 1: Visit the official website of CLAT i.e. clatconsortiumofnlus.ac.in

Step 2: On the Home page, click on the link "Register" and complete the registration process by entering the name, mobile number, and setting a password.

Step 3: Enter the OTP received on the registered mobile number. This completes the registration process.

Step 4: Log in to the portal using the registered mobile number and password.

Step 5: Start filling the application form by entering all the correct details.

Step 6: Upload necessary scanned images, documents, signatures in the specified format.

Step 7: Make the payment of the fee through the different online payment modes to complete the application process.

CLAT-UG : Admit Card Release Date

You can download the CLAT Admit Card only from the official website as per the scheduled date. You can follow the steps below in order to download the admit card:

1. Visit the official website of CLAT.

2. On the homepage, click on the link "Download CLAT Admit Card "

3. Enter your login credentials and click on the submit button.

4. The admit card will be displayed on the screen.

5. Download and take a printout of the admit card for future reference.

CLAT-UG : Exam Centers

Based on the choices made during filling the form, you will be allotted CLAT Exam Centers across the country. The allocated venue of the exam is mentioned in the admit card.

You will not be able to change the exam center after the issue of admit card, as per the CLAT Notification.

CLAT-UG : Exam Day Instructions

Due to the current situation, there are certain CLAT Exam Day Instructions to be followed by all aspirants on the day of the exam.

  • Reach the exam center at least half an hour before the reporting time.

  • Make sure to carry necessary documents like Photo ID Proof to the examination hall.

  • Do not carry any electronic gadgets to the exam hall.

  • Any required stationery items will be provided at the exam center.

  • Those with a temperature of more than 99.14 will be directed to the isolation lab for taking the examination.

  • You can carry Mask, Gloves, Personal transparent water bottle, Personal hand sanitizer (50 ml), A simple pen, Exam related documents (Admit Card, ID card, etc.)

  • No candidate is allowed to leave the exam hall before the exam timings.

  • In the case of aspirants with the scribe, both must carry their own N95 masks.

CLAT-UG : Exam Analysis

Every year, the Common Law Admission Test is conducted to offer admission into UG and PG programs. Here is the brief CLAT Exam Analysis of the previous year.

Going through the analysis can help you to know the difficulty level of the exam, the number of good attempts, and more.

  • Overall the CLAT 2021 exam was easy compared to 2020. Last year there were so many unexpected questions, but this year questions were predictable and doable.

  • All the passages and questions were predictable. It was less lengthy than the previous year. This increased the number of attempts.

  • Current Affairs and GK were very easy. Passages were based on PM Modi's visit to Bangladesh, United Nations, SAARC. All the questions were straightforward.

  • Legal Reasoning was also easy this year. Questions were based on regular topics like Hindu Marriage Act, IPC, Jurisdiction, Contract Law. Most of the questions were standard.

CLAT-UG : Answer Key

After the completion of the exam, the Consortium of NLUs will release the provisional answer key. In case if there are any objections to be raised, you can send them via the official website.

Based on the objections received, the final answer keys will be released. Here are the steps that can be followed to download the CLAT Answer Key for both UG and PG programs.

  • Enter your login credentials and submit them.

  • Now, you can view the answer key for your respective course and set.

CLAT-UG : Result

The CLAT Result is prepared based on the final answer key. The result is released as a merit list of shortlisted aspirants for the counseling procedure through the Law entrance Test score.

Students can access the CLAT result from these official websites - consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

* Note: - If you intend to have an idea of your past performance in the exam, then you can visit the official website and get the answer key to your answer set and then analyze.

Once the CLAT results have been declared, aspirants need to take part in CLAT centralized counselling process which is conducted by the CLAT Consortium. It is through this counselling process that candidates can secure admission in UG and PG programmes offered by different National Law Universities. A total of 4 merit lists are released. Aspirants who do not make it to the first merit list have to wait for the second merit list and so forth. Candidates who make it to the first list have to pay a sum of Rs. 30,000(for General Categories) Rs. 20,000(for other Categories) if they want to be considered for the counselling process going forward. This amount is deductible from the college fees students pay, once they are made an offer of admission. Students also have an option of requesting a refund of this amount after the third list is out. Once the fourth list is out students cannot avail this option of seeking a refund on the deposited amount.

How to Check CLAT-UG Result ?

The Consortium of NLU will announce the result after the declaration of the CLAT Answer Key. You can follow the steps given below while downloading CLAT 2022 for both UG and PG programs.

Results can be viewed only from the official website. Before the merit list, the scorecard of the exam will be released. Here are the steps you need to follow while checking for results:

1. Visit the official website of Consortium of NLUs i.e.consortiumofnlus.ac.in

2. Click on the CLAT Login portal.

3. Enter your Registration Number, Date of Birth and click on the "Login" button.

4. On the new page, click on the "View Result" button

5. The results will be displayed on the screen

6. Download the CLAT scorecard and result sheet and take a printout for future reference

How to Retrieve CLAT Login Details if Forgotten?

You can follow the steps mentioned below if you forget your login credentials to download the CLAT Result Merit List.

1. Visit the official website of the Consortium of NLUs

2. On the Homepage, click on the "Login" portal

3. In the login window, click on "Forgot Password."

4. Enter your mobile number and click on "Request OTP."

5. You will receive an OTP in your registered mobile number

6. You can reset your password using your mobile number and the OTP

CLAT-UG : Scorecard

The CLAT scorecard is an official document that will be released by the exam conducting authorities along with the result. The Scorecard PDF for Common Law Admission Test can be viewed and downloaded only from the official website.This document will include the marks scored in each section and also the total marks scored. During the counselling, it is mandatory to carry this Common Law Admission Test Scorecard without fail. Also, note that this Scorecard will be valid only for one year.

There are various details mentioned on the scorecard that are listed below.

A. Name: Name of the student who has given the test

B. Roll Number: the roll number that is allocated to the student

C. Date of Birth: the candidate's date of birth is mentioned

D. Score: the score achieved by the student

E. All India Rank: the candidate's overall rank across India

F. All India Category Rank: candidate's rank belonging to a category like General, SC, etc.

G. NRI Rank (students who had applied under NRI Quota)

H. NRI Sponsored Rank (for the students who had applied under NRI Sponsored Quota)

CLAT-UG : Merit List

The merit list is released along with the declaration of the CLAT Result . The CLAT Merit List will be released in the form of a PDF. The Consortium will prepare 2(two) lists, i.e., General Rank List and category-Wise Rank List. The CLAT merit list will include:

. Your performance in the exam with the State Rank.

. The standards on which you are selected

How to calculate the CLAT Score?

The results are prepared by calculating the raw scores. Once the raw scores are calculated, Consortium will prepare the CLAT merit list. The marking scheme to evaluate the CLAT Exam Result is given in the following table:

The formula to calculate the CLAT Score is as follows:

Total Score = 1*(Total number of correct answers) - 0.25*(Total number of wrong answers)

 

 

CLAT-UG : Result Tie Breaking Procedure

Often there are cases that two or more students have the same scores. In such cases, some tie-breaking rules are taken into consideration. The following factors will be taken into consideration while resolving the tie in the CLAT merit list.

. If your age is higher, then you will be given a high preference

. Those who have scored higher in the Legal Reasoning Test will be ranked higher

. In case if you and other person have equal age and secured equal marks in the Legal Aptitude Reasoning Test, then there will be a computerized draw of lots

What After CLAT Result ?

The Consortium will release the cutoff marks after the announcement of the CLAT Exam Result. Cut-off marks are the minimum marks that you need to score to get qualified for the next stage.

Based on the CLAT Cut Off marks, you will be shortlisted for the counselling process.

During the counselling process, you will be offered admission to UG and PG courses based on the Common Law Admission Test scores.

CLAT-UG : Cut Off

The CLAT Cut Off will be released separately for 24 NLUs. The consortium of NLUs will release college-wise and category-wise cut-off marks. Also, note that the cut-off would be released separately for each seat allotment round.

CLAT Merit List

The merit list is generally released after the results by the Consortium of NLU. The CLAT Merit List will be released only on the official website separately for UG and PG.

For all three rounds of counseling, the merit list will be released separately.

The Merit List includes the category-wise merit rank of the applicant who has qualified in the exam.

This list is prepared by using the scores of all aspirants with the higher scores placed at the top and followed by the lowest scores.

The details mentioned on the merit list include your admit card number, All India Rank, and Total marks obtained in the entrance exam.

CLAT-UG : Counselling process

• The CLAT Counselling will begin once the results are declared by the exam conducting body.

• To attend the counselling procedure, you need to register by making an online payment.

• Once the first provisional list is released, you must choose any of the three options: Accept the allotted seat, Apply for Upgrade, or Exit from the Admission Process.

• If the first option is chosen, you need to upload all the required documents and pay a requisite fee to the allotted NLU.

• In case if you choose the second option i.e., Accept for Upgrade, then you must make a payment of Rs.30,000/- (if you are General category candidate) or Pay Rs.20,000/- (if you are ST/SC/OBC/BC/EWS/PWD and other reservation category candidate) to the allotted University and upload documents as per the schedule.

• If the last option is chosen, then the allotted seat will be lost and you will not be considered for further allotment.

CLAT Counselling

The CLAT Counselling will begin after the release of the merit list. The entire counselling is conducted in online mode.

You must make an online payment of Rs. 30000/- for General Category and Rs. 20000/- for ST/SC/OBC/BC/ EWS/ PWD and other reserved categories to register for the counseling procedures.

Once the first provisional list is released, you must choose any of the three options: Accept the allotted seat, Apply for Upgrade or Exit from the Admission Process.

Q. Do the NLUs consider Class 12 marks for admission?

The NLUs which are part of Law entrance Test has the basic eligibility condition of 45% or above marks in aggregate in Class XII. Other than that, no consideration is given to class XII marks.

Q. What is the age eligibility condition to apply for CLAT 2024?

There is no upper age limit applicable to anyone who wants to apply for the exam. But, the lower age limit has to be 20 years old and for the candidates who belong to SC/ST and PhD (Physically Disabled) categories, and for others the lower age limit is 22 years old.

Q. I have submitted my form for CLAT already, but want to make some changes. Can I?

Generally, it is not possible. But, it depends on the consortium decision whether to provide form correction or not.

Q. Who can sponsor me for NRI Sponsored seats?

Only a first-degree relative (Parents, Grandparents & Siblings) or second-degree relatives (Cousins, Paternal Uncle/ Aunt, Maternal Uncles/Aunt) can sponsor your candidature for NRI Sponsored Seats.

Q. Who can apply for EWS seats in CLAT 2024?

To apply for EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) seats, one must have the EWS certificate. To be eligible for EWS, one’s family income should be less than 8 lacs per annum and other criteria in terms of ownership of land/plot/flat must be fulfilled.

Q. Once I have been allotted a NLU, what is the further process?

Once a candidate has been allotted a National Law University, basis his/her rank and preference order as given in the CLAT application, the student has three choices to make:

Lock: the candidate will pay the counseling fee of Rs. 50,000 (Rupees Fifty Thousand Only) and book the seat at the allotted National Law University. After locking, candidate will lose the option of upgrading to a higher NLU in the preference given.

Upgrade: Under this option, the student pays the counselling fee of Rs. 50,000 and wait for the upgrade to happen, in case of a vacancy in the National Law University, higher in the preference order by the candidate.

Withdraw: This is not a choice but is dependent on whether the candidate has paid the counselling fee or not. If the candidate has not paid the requisite counselling fee within the stipulated time frame, the candidate loses his candidature from CLAT 2023.

Q. What if I don’t want to take admission to the allotted University? Will the counselling fee be refunded?

If you do not wish to take admission this year as the NLU allotted to you is not to your liking for any reason, you must show your interest to withdraw from the process within the stipulated time frame. CLAT will deduct Rs. 10000 and the balance amount will be refunded.

Q. What happens if I don’t pay the CLAT counselling fee within the stipulated time?

If any candidate doesn’t pay the counselling fee within the stipulated time frame against the allotment list, one loses the candidature for allotment of National Law Universities in the subsequent lists too.

Q. Do I need to go to the NLU allotted to me to pay the counselling fee?

No, the payment of the counselling fee must be done online through the link given. You do not need to go to the National Law University to make the payment.

Q. I have not been allotted any CLAT seat in the first list. Do I have a chance in the second list?

It depends on the number of vacant seats after the first allotment. The allotment in the second list will depend on your rank and the number of seats available.

Q. What is the process of CLAT Spot Counselling?

> Under the spot counselling, National Law Universities, depending on the vacant seats across the different categories will notify on their respective websites.

> Candidates who wish to apply for such seats must submit their interest within the time frame given for such interest to be shown.

> After which, the NLUs give a timeline to such candidates who will be admitted against such seats to visit the campus and complete the admission process.

> The allotment for such seats is done based on ranks secured by such candidates who have shown interest for such seats
